MARINE GROWTH PREVENTION SYSTEMS

Launching our Marine Growth Prevention, Antifouling & Cathodic Protection Service, Aion-Pro now delivers a seamless, dual-defence solution that keeps seawater circuits clear of biofouling while protecting submerged steel and concrete from corrosion. Biofouling can raise hull drag by up to 60 % and fuel use by 40 %, while unchecked corrosion shortens asset life and forces costly downtime. By integrating an Impressed-Current Antifouling / Marine Growth Prevention System (ICAF-MGPS) with a rigorously engineered cathodic-protection (CP) design, we give owners measurable efficiency gains and long-term structural security—delivered under one contract, from design through lifetime supervision.

Why marine growth & corrosion control matter

Marine organisms clog strainers, block heat-exchangers, and add tonnes of fouling to hulls, pushing up emissions and dry-dock costs. At the same time, seawater changes the electro-chemical potential of steel and reinforced concrete, accelerating pitting and rebar decay unless protective current is applied.

Our integrated technology

Impressed-Current Antifouling / MGPS

  • Controlled copper-ion dosing – Copper anodes in seachests release ions at < 2 ppb, lethal to larval stages yet environmentally compliant.

  • Bi-metal pairs – A complementary aluminium (or iron) anode completes the circuit and protects cupronickel piping.

  • Micro-processor control – Panels adjust current for temperature, salinity and flow, minimising power draw.

  • Regulatory alignment – Designs respect the IMO Antifouling Systems Convention ban on organotin compounds.

Cathodic Protection integration

  • Sacrificial or impressed-current CP sized to DNV RP-B401 envelopes for fixed and floating structures.

  • Design current densities derived from AMPP / NACE offshore and concrete standards; interference checks ensure the MGPS circuit is not over-polarised.

  • Real-time verification – Instant potential-shift logging confirms CP effectiveness while MGPS remains energised.

End-to-end workflow

Concept & feasibility

  • Site survey, flow-rate modelling and fouling-risk scoring based on latest biofouling data.

Design & detailed engineering

  • 3-D CAD layouts for anode placement and cable routing.

  • Electrical load, stray-current and galvanic/ICCP sizing to ISO / DNV guidelines.

Material production & QA/QC

  • In-house casting of Cu/Al or Zn antifouling anodes and MMO-coated Ti CP anodes, tested for composition, adhesion and dissolution per ISO 21716.

Site installation & commissioning

  • Certified welders/divers mount anodes; functional tests verify copper-ion output, circuit continuity and CP polarisation—witnessed by our Level 3 CP technologist and Level 4 CP Specialist.

Monitoring, maintenance & supervision

  • Web-enabled loggers track current, voltage and potential shift, with alerts on parameter drift; annual diver/video inspections measure anode wear.
